This is absolutely wonderful. And you certainly did not carry the metaphor too far. Funny, I'm looking at some drywall repair I'm doing and a couple of spots are looking terrible and I came to the conclusion this morning, that I just need to tear it out and start over. I agree, we really need to lean into the reset moments. Thank you for this, S.E.

I do the same with the grocery list & I absolutely loathe having to backtrack.

BUT this piece is a good reminder that plowing ahead out of stubbornness isn’t a good thing either. Sometimes turning around, back tracking, or even starting over is the best thing for all involved (and probably sanctifying as well).

Love the metaphor and I do the same with the grocery store!

At least you’re trying with the gardening. I like the benefits of a garden, just don’t like tending to them. lol

When the time for resetting comes up, I know God always has my back. Thank you for this lovely share and reminder.

Walking the grocery list as if I drew a map! No other way. Wink!

Decades back as a novice gardener, we planted many varies of berries, in turn, many jams and cobblers. Until the Japanese beetles took residence in the ground and came out hungry just when they ripened. Usually the black raspberries made it, the blackberries not. I would haul a shop vac out to dispose of them. Often wondered if they are still a nuisance the Midwest. Hoping the weather soon welcomes them for planting, and your buckets overflow!

Haven't read one of these (or much of anything) for awhile do to 'getting dug up' and set back myself. Thank you for another timely parable! 💛

2 things:

1. I’ve found that an amazing way to reset expectations and find opportunities for grace is to let my 6 year old daughter push the shopping basket at the grocery store. Truly a sanctifying experience.

2. Your post reminded me of a song by the Decemberists called June Hymn. Not sure if you’ve heard of them but it’s one of my favorites: https://youtu.be/lhg2Zf3PnaU?si=AiDGHpQ2f0E1LRVn

Thanks for posting!

You are SO right! We should remember that we don't have to be always ploughing forward regardless! Sometimes better to cover and conserve the strength we have accumulated. Sometimes perhaps we take a step sideways for a better approach. Progress is not always linear in time or space. Thanks for this S.E.!
