S.E., the bravery of this personal sharing gives the rest of us relief that we all are basically on the same pathway, just at different points of learning to navigate. Your experience is there to illuminate the path for your fellow travelers, just as you are (as we all are) taking the same where you need it I think.
Uncertainty is the fertilizer of faith. It's not a poetic picture, but the metaphor is apt. Natural fertilizer is unpleasant to apply to the earth (it's stinky!) and it's hard to imagine eating the food that grows out of that soil. And then, Spring. Tiny green shoots emerge, offering a glimpse of what will come. They grow and in due time, mature to nourish our bodies. Uncertainty is much the same. It's hard to imagine what may grow out of a dormant season, but hope emerges as a tiny glimpse. It matures into confidence and in due time, we live the reality of God's goodness.
I have been in the space of having so many questions myself, and I was just having a conversation with a couple of people today about what that means - to let go of expectation and to do our best to live the questions in every moment. I too find myself in the same space with writing, and so I just wish to say that I see you and I honor you for walking with and towards the dream.
Relating to so much in this. The discomfort of uncertainty, the wanting to know so we can prepare, remembering how we've come through before. Thank you for sharing.
The sun will shine again here in Washington (I’m in north Clark co. I feel your words in every way.) Our twitch’s will pass with the end of a long, dreary, gray season. 💕🙏🏻
So glad to have found your stack, through a post recommended on Notes :) This is such a beautiful reflection. "If I knew, I tell myself, then I could prepare." I often long for more certainty. And so I often have to remind myself how more certainty 1) isn't really possible and 2) isn't actually ever what helps me. I've always experienced the greatest peace when trusting in the face of the greatest uncertainty.
“A community of nature-based Christians and Christianity-adjacent nature folk.” What a great description! I write Moments, photography + stories about moments of connection in nature and everyday life. I connect with nature through the lens of my faith - but I share because I believe connections with nature benefit everyone, all the time :) Nice to have found you here!
The only certainty as a writer (that we can control) is sitting down to do it. :) When my husband was on death's door last year, the only certainty I had then was that I could get a macaroon and an Earl Grey tea from the cafeteria each afternoon to savor in the dark hospital room. Clinging to the smallest certainties sometimes is all we can do (and even they are illusions).

Start to finish, nothing but chimes in harmony. Thank you for writing it.
The beautiful thing is you’re not alone!
By far the most relatable and encouraging thing I have read so far this year. I didn't know just how much I needed these words. Thank you.

Here for this new direction of Wildroot. Wonderfully said.
Thank you - this was really helpful for me today, thinking about a big move coming up later this year 🗺️

Beautiful, Sally - love you, and love your heart for the craft you share with us all! You're such an inspiration!
Wonderful analogy works perfectly.

All the best in 2024!! Especially for your relationships and writing.
Our daughter has helped me alot, leaning into uncertainty; not quite there yet! Rest that eye a minute!
