Thank you so much for mentioning my comment! And I love what you say here about St. Francis being a complicated, imperfect person God used to do incredible things, because we are complicated and imperfect.

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Seems like our feathered neighbors know something we fail to grasp of what it means to trust in God. Maybe what sounds like gossip is really, as you said, them preaching to us thick-headed beings that we really are in the Father's tender care. We hear of God's wild love in the sudden thrum of the hummingbird, the scolding peep of the wren, the loud laughter of the crows. But are we listening?
