Thank you for joining us!
Before we begin our devotional, I wanted to share a Comment Highlight from last week:
All of your sweet comments on last week’s breakdown of my faith journey were so wonderful and I treasure every word. Today I’ll highlight this one, from Sofia, which also includes a link to her own post on a similar theme:
Ok wait! I LOVE THIS. I wrote on my own unique, off brand Christianity (Catholicism more specifically) last week. I'll link it here if you're at all interested:
Thank you for sharing this so openly and compassionately. I like to think God knew there was no possible way every soul was going to be able to experience him identically. And so the beauty is all the varying roads people can take to reach that same bliss.
Thank you so much for commenting, Sofia! You can check out her newsletter, called The Solstice, at the link in her comment above!
If you want a chance to be featured in next week’s Comment Highlight, all you have to do is post a comment on any of this week’s posts or threads. That’s it!
Now, on with this week’s devotional…
if the showers of April have done their work, then flowers are near at hand, waiting for Mary’s month to arrive so that they can fill the empty spaces, the meadows and fields, the byways and woodlands with fragrance and song, they cannot wait for the bees, their faithful priests, to buzz about them in rapture and turn their color into sound and sweetness.
As April draws to a close, we should be amazed by the transformation that we’re seeing: blossoms on the trees, blooms in hiding places along the roadsides. Even the drab weeds are often bursting with tiny flowers, sometimes nearly impossible to see.
If we garden, then our gardens are probably alive with green, by now. Some plants are halfway through their growth already, like the spring greens and peas and certain varieties of potatoes. The bees are waking up, the birds are nesting and sitting, and all is truly spring.
In April, it should be important to realize that no corner of the world is immune from the beauty of wildflowers. They are everywhere. Dandelions—a personal favorite–are probably sprouting in every lawn and vacant lot. Violets grow wild in the strangest places. Trees in parks are blossoming, inviting bees to the party. The wild bulbs–daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, muscari–sometimes pop up in the middle of the woods, where no one can even see them.
Late April is a season of generous color. It is everywhere. It is unmissable.
Well, that’s not strictly true, is it? We humans are bizarrely capable of missing the obvious, even when it’s all around us.
This final week of April invites us to look. Really, truly look. See what is under our feet, over our heads, and tucked into the ugliest corners. The rain of April has inspired a riot of life. If we keep our eyes open, we simply cannot miss it.
