Thank you for joining us! Before we begin our devotional, I wanted to share a Comment Highlight from last week:
Megan was on a roll last week with fantastic comments! I especially wanted to highlight this profound insight on the Seeking the Warm Center devotional:
“I can’t help but think of the Tabernacle... and the innermost part where God dwells, which reflects Eden. We may be far from Eden but God dwells with us, Immanuel - God with us! and through Him we can absolutely walk towards that warm center. He never moved. Love this idea.”
Beautifully said, Megan! You can find her and more of her phenomenal thoughts at @holy_hsp on Instagram!
If you want to be featured in next week’s Comment Highlight, all you have to do is post a comment on any of this week’s posts or threads. That’s it!
Now, on with this week’s devotional…
was that flash in the underbrush a white rabbit-tail? or was it God's glowing face peeking from the leaf-litter, slipping up the tree-trunk agile as a squirrel; Who taught the birds to laugh the way they do? Who taught the deer to leap? the God of earth is the God of infinite play, and we (yes, even we) His dearest friends.
When was the last time you saw God’s face?
We’ve all seen Him, in one way or another. You cannot live in this world and miss Him. The problem—as is so often the case—is in admitting that we’ve seen Him.
It’s no secret that nature is full of wonders, some tiny and some very magnificent. In each, we can find God’s face. Sometimes He peeks out from below a flowering bush, or we can hear Him humming in bee-songs and frog-hymns. Some of us feel His soft embrace when we walk the beach or happen upon a secret grove in the woods. Others hear Him best in a crowd or on a city street. We can find Him in art, in craft, in music, or in play. Sometimes we catch a glimpse of Him in another human being, a friend or a lover or even an enemy. But we’ve all seen Him, if we let ourselves realize what we’re seeing.
God made a world that is full of Himself. But often, sadly, we are all a bit too serious—a bit too grown-up—to spot Him, or to admit it.
Our charge this week is simple: open your eyes, and your mind, and when you see God’s face this week, admit it, the way a child might. To yourself. To someone you love. To anyone who will listen.
Ours is an infinite game of hide and seek with the Creator who loves us. But we can be sure that He never stays hidden for long.
