To end our week here, I have written a meditation inspired by our “handmade” theme in the style of a caim prayer. I include a special caim for each month in my ebooks, and here is how I introduce them:
“A caim is an ‘encircling’ prayer. In the wisdom of Celtic thought, these prayers would be said when walking in a circle around a person or place as a symbol of protection, or surrounding. To symbolize the way God surrounds us with His peace, you could say these prayers while walking, while embracing, while drawing a circle with your finger on the tabletop or in the air…or even while stirring your morning coffee.”
(For an example of one of my monthly caim prayers, you can read the free April Issue here.)
The caim prayers in my ebooks are specific and seasonal, but this one is a more general one that I wanted to share with you all here. My hope is that it inspires, uplifts, and perhaps even opens new ways of seeing.
O God of the Handmade Good: (the bread dough) (the soft clay) (the paint brush) (the needle and thread) encircle us, we pray. keep creativity within, keep despair without. keep openness within, keep barrenness without. O God, who makes all things by hand: encircle us, we pray. as the bowl encircles the dough, as the wheel encircles the clay, as the palette encircles the brush, as the thread encircles the cloth, draw near, and fill Your craft (our lives) with grace.
